So...how are you doing?
I love learning new things - I just soak it up...but I can quickly start feeling like I am a sponge that is leaking around the edges! Does that happen to you too? If so - please just take your time...work at a pace that is not overwhelming. This Basics Workshop has LOTS of information in it because I want you to feel like you have a great foundation. I have included topics that you may find more helpful later in your creative journey - so remember that you can come back and access this classroom as often as you like.
Have you joined the Illuminated Journaling Workshop Community on Facebook? It is a closed group, but as a student I have sent you an invitation. I wanted us to be able to interact over any questions you may have - and would LOVE to see your projects as you work on them. If you haven't seen your invitation - just send me a message via the Contact Jann button at the top of the page and I will get you an invitation to the group. I hope you will join us - I know you will be blessed by seeing what some of the other students are doing as well.
I will have one more video for you...please check back in a few days. I apologize but I am not satisfied with the audio on the A Lot About Ink video and I will re-record it and get it loaded up for you as quickly as I can.
You can watch your session videos right here on this page, you can make the viewer larger by clicking that little four cornered icon on the bottom right of the viewer, or you can watch the video on YouTube by clicking the YouTube icon on the viewer. These videos are "unlisted" so you will need to access them first here, even if you want to watch them on YouTube.
A Lot About Gesso
This is the topic that I get the MOST questions about...almost on a daily basis. I really understand that though - we all want to make sure that we get the best results when we are working in our Bible or Journal and if we hear that there is something that might help - we want to check it out...for sure!
You may have some of these same questions. When should I use gesso? What kind of paint can I use on it? What is "clear gesso?" Is it better than regular gesso? Is there something else I should be using if I don't want my art to bleed through to the other side of the page?
I have two goals for this video. First, I hope to de-mystify some of the most popular mediums - and help you know what they are "best" at and when you might want to use them.
Secondly, I want to show you how you can test these things out for yourself with the paints, pens and inks that you want to be able to use in your own Illuminated Journaling.
A Lot About Watercolor video
I love to use watercolors in my Bible. I use them most often to just add a wash of color as a background...easy to read through, but a great way to ground other elements on the page. I also use watercolors to lay down my initial color when I am working on a detailed illustration. They work really well with colored pencils so you may have fun trying them out together.
There are SO many things that you can use for your watercolor medium...and I will show you quite a few of them in this video.

Illuminated Margins: Part One Overlays
If you have seen very many of my pages, you know that I have a tendency to paint and draw ALL OVER the page...and I am okay with that. But, I do know that many people prefer to keep their entries in the margins in order to be sure that every word is visible.
Here are two ways that you can add journaling and illustrations to your pages without covering the words.
I have divided them into separate videos so that I could be sure and show you as much of the process as possible.
